One of the most impressive ascetic depictions of Christ’s figure is the one being was elaborated in the first half of the 6th century depicting Christ as Pantocrator (Almighty) at the Monastery of Saint Catherine, of Sinai. The technique of the icon is referred as encaustic because the painting pigment was mixed with wax, or wax and resin and for its application a hot iron or other tool was used.
