Archangel Michael

Archangel Michael, whose name means "(the one) who is like God" is the only figure recognized as an Archangel in the Bible (Scripture) and is recognized both by the Catholic and Protestant doctrine. It is believed that he is the one who appears in the Old Testament from the beginning of the creation of the world and the one who expelled Adam and Eva from Heaven, as ordered by God. He rescued the angelic forces from their fall and for his boldness God appointed him as the Head of the Angelic Order. He is celebrated on November 8. The original icon is exhibited at the Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens and is an artwork of the 14th century. The exquisite quality of the icon indicates its high art, and is influenced by the icon workshops of Constantinople.
